THE TRUTH ABOUT 21 DAYS
“21 days to form a habit” is a familiar saying. Understanding its background helps explain what this plan actually means.
The idea is associated with surgeon Maxwell Maltz's 1960 book Psycho-Cybernetics. His observations that people often needed at least about 21 days to adjust to change were later simplified into a universal habit rule.
A 2010 study by Lally and colleagues at UCL, published in the European Journal of Social Psychology, found that automaticity took around 66 days on average, with individual estimates ranging from 18 to 254 days.
A clear and manageable starting period: enough time to begin a new exercise and eating rhythm and notice your direction of change. Continued practice is needed to make habits more established, which is why we emphasise sustainability over quick fixes.

YOUR GOALS
Many people find losing weight or maintaining change difficult. The plan focuses on practical daily habits, including:
Weight is only one measure. Strength training can affect body composition and shape, so also consider how clothes fit, how you feel and what you see in the mirror.
Changes vary between individuals. The plan focuses on sustainable methods and support rather than guaranteed results.

The US CDC describes about 1–2 lb per week as gradual weight loss that is more likely to be maintained. Rapid targets can be harder to sustain.
WHO recommends 150–300 minutes of moderate aerobic activity each week for adults, plus muscle-strengthening activity on at least two days.
Weight and body shape are influenced by eating, sleep and stress. The plan includes food awareness and daily routines because exercise alone may not be enough.
This is general health information, not individual medical or nutritional advice. If you have a chronic condition, an eating disorder, are pregnant or have recently given birth, consult a doctor or registered dietitian first.
